Why the hose behind my dryer keeps crushing

Measure before you blame the hose. Close the laundry door. Measure from the wall face to the back of the dryer. Gas units lose more of that gap to the shutoff valve and the flex gas connector. Most crushed transitions are a fit problem, not a product problem.

Many dryers let you move the exhaust collar. The back panel carries knockouts for left, right, or bottom discharge. Relocating it can line the collar up with the wall stub. A rigid telescoping box then makes the turn flat against the wall. Coiled foil never will.

Look at what is already back there. White vinyl flex still turns up in older laundry rooms. It feels soft and plastic, and it goes brittle at the clamp. That gets removed, not re-clamped.

Closet installs need air coming in. Louvered doors and undercut doors do real work. A solid slab door shut tight starves the machine and stretches drying times. Second-floor laundry closets in later tract construction are the usual offenders here.

Then go outside while it runs. Find the hood: sidewall, gable, or roof jack. The flap should stand open and hold there. Weak flow with a new hose points at the duct run, usually the first elbow inside the wall.
